OUR MISSION
Our mission is to serve people living with HIV/AIDS, their loved ones, caregivers and communities at large, through compassionate and non-judgmental care, prevention, education and advocacy.
OUR HISTORY
The Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina (the Alliance) dates back to 1989, when the AIDS Service Agency of North Carolina, Inc., AIDS Service Agency of
Orange Co, Inc., and the Triangle AIDS Interfaith Network, Inc. consolidated efforts in serving and supporting people living with HIV/AIDS. We have been a registered 501(c)3 (non-profit) organization with the IRS since 1999, and now have 38 full- and part-time staff, with nearly 800 volunteers engaged in delivering our services to our community—people living with HIV/AIDS in Durham, Johnston, Orange and Wake Counties, and their families and caregivers.
OUR PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
Aside from primary care, the Alliance also provides a full continuum of care for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. All of our clients have access to our complete offering of client services: free HIV/STD testing and counseling; emergency financial assistance for rent and utilities; transportation assistance (bus tickets and mileage reimbursement); nutritional services (counseling, a food pantry and liquid nutrients); housing information and referrals; and HIV and health information. Counseling services are also available to clients in Wake and Durham Counties (where we have office locations) and include mental health and substance abuse counseling; treatment adherence tools and counseling; and pastoral counseling and care teams.
Prevention education targeting men who have sex with men (MSM), women of child-bearing years, Latinos and African American communities is also accessible on- and off-site for clients. Referrals to other community organizations are often made from these offices for varied support services, including case management. Our client services offices in Durham and Wake Counties, along with our administrative office in Raleigh, are conveniently located near ports of public transportation for easy access. We have bilingual Spanish- and English-speaking client advocates and prevention educators in our two largest locations—Wake and Durham Counties, our HIV/STD testing coordinators are bilingual, and all of our material is offered bilingually.
The Access Network of Care
In April 2010, the Access Network of Care was established to change the way individuals living with HIV or AIDS can link into and access care in Region Six of North Carolina (mainly the Piedmont region of the state). The Network is co-administered by Wake County Human Services and the Alliance of AIDS Services – Carolina … but as one of the funded partners, the Alliance’s participation enables us to broaden our reach beyond our traditional four-County reach to include Chatham, Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Lee, Orange, Person, Vance, Wake, and Warren Counties. Our focus for the Network is testing, prevention and care.
